Dirty River Roller Derby (DRRD) is a roller derby league founded in Turku in 2010. All of DRRD’s activities are guided by our values of equality and inclusivity. Our league operates on a community-based, volunteer-driven spirit, and everyone interested in the sport or the community is welcome to join. Within our league, you can take part as a skater, official, referee, coach, or in one of our working departments, such as communications/media, fundraising, merchandise, or event organization.
Every year we organize open skate trial sessions in the spring and autumn. These are followed by beginner courses where you can learn the basics of quad skating, how to make contact, and the fundamental rules of roller derby. In the autumn, we have also hosted a Pride scrimmage (exhibition game) as part of Turku Pride Week. You can find more information about our beginner activities and events through our news updates and on Instagram.
DRRD currently has two competitive teams: Föri Fighters (A team) and Boss-ankat (B team), both of which compete at the Finnish national level. After completing the beginner course, you can join a team, and our B team welcomes all who are interested in playing in a team, regardless of skill level. DRRD is a member of the governing body WFTDA, and we follow the WFTDA Statement About Gender. This means that players of diverse genders, including trans and non-binary skaters, are welcome to our competitive teams.
